A Georgian Christmas: Margate in 1827

During November the events team began to prepare for Christmas! With the opening of Turner Contemporary and a renewed interest in Turner and his life the Chair, Ian Dickie and indeed the rest of the Friends began to wonder what life was like at Christmas during Georgian Margate? We set about researching this very subject. It was a time of change in Margate, from a village to the well loved seaside resort it is today. The volunteers gathered superb historical information about this time which help us to achieve our aim as a group, to educate the wider community about Margate’s history. We also held two events in conjunction with the exhibition, Robert Poulters excellent model theatre and the Hoodeners stopped by to give us a special Christmas performance.
